Back in 1989-1990, there were five afternoon shows I watched all the time when I was a kid: Chip N’ Dale Rescue Rangers and Ducktales on Fox, while on KUSI-51 I watched the Jetsons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the Elegant Mario Bros Trim Indicate. Now, four of them have finally been added to my DVD collection, and I am partially awaiting the arrival of TSMBSS to include the fourth.

The prove is one of my favorites. While half of it features various minute live action skits featuring the Mario Bros. and various guests, from Sgt. Slaughter to Magic Johnson and even Inspector Gadget(played by Maurice LaMarche in live action… far better than the performance Matthew Broderick gave), with some silly plots such as Mario switching bodies with Frankenstein’s monster or Luigi getting trapped in a magician’s hat. The other half is attractive, in which Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach… sorry, Toadstool, and Toad attempt to try and rid the world of King Koopa.

The toons themselves were a bit of a merger of the first two Mario games. Koopa, for example, had Bowser’s invent and ego, but also had Wart’s crown and color, plus Mouser(from the 2nd game) was his main henchman. The plots sometimes dealt with facing Koopa in the Mushroom Kingdom, but usually they took the plumbers and placed them in various situations: For example, movie parodies such as Indiana Jones, James Bond, or Godzilla, or homages such the group visiting Camelot… I mean, Cram-a-lot, or even prehistoric times. All the while Koopa would continue to menace the group under various disguises and alter-egos, similar to say, Boris Badanov from Rocky and Bullwinkle. Interestingly enough, some of Mario and Luigi’s traits from the games, such as Mario’s enormous appetite and Luigi being a complete and total coward, actually originated in this note.

However, I am timorous on how the releases will turn out. Although it seems DIC, I’m terrorized if they will truly be the episodes I watched on TV all the time. One of the highlights of the series was that at some point in an episode they would play various songs, such as “Curious Science,” “Thriller,” or “Wretchedness Zone”. However, in reairings of the episodes(retitled, Smart Mario All-Stars, which aired with the two sequels, Adventures of Dapper Mario Bros. 3 and Orderly Mario World), as well as on their single-disc releases of TSMBSS, DIC completely edited these songs out. There’s been no mention on whether the songs will be included for the 4-disc space, but I hope they are, because I want the episodes as they ORIGINALLY aired, not edited up. I contacted them and asked if they would be including the songs, but have yet to receive a respond. Here’s hoping that the series will be restored on DVD the device it should be.

This is my approved Buñel film. The yarn is stunningly presented, an absolute work of art, unbelievably subtle but always concrete. It is like a large symphony: every label is perfect.

Surprisingly (considering the title) Le journal d’une femme de chambre is not about sex, nor is it a journal for that matter. It is about politics, sexual politics of course, but also domestic politics, manor politics, and nation-state politics. The time is the thirties as fascism moves toward its mesmerizing stranglehold on a decadent Europe. The station is France (Normandy, I imagine) where the republicans possess power. In the streets are those who would be brown suits and among them is Joseph (Georges Geret), groundskeeper for a shrimp bourgeois family of degenerate eccentrics. He is an incipient Nazi, a xenophobic anti-Semitic man who worships brute force, an ignorant man that every French movie-goer knows will be a Nazi-collaborator once France is under the occupation.

The legend is seen from the point of belief of Celestine, a chambermaid of some sophistication (and an abiding, but understandable duplicity), a Parisian who has near to work for the family in the country. She is played by the incomparable Jeanne Moreau of the plastic face, a woman of many guises, many moods and an ability to depict with a peep any emotion. She is a immense star of the French stage and cloak who plays the fragment effortlessly, with finesse and a dazzling subtlety. The screenplay by Buñel and the gleaming Jean-Claude Carriere (who penned so many outstanding films, Bell de Jour (1967), The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972), Valmont (1989), The Ogre (1996), etc.) is an adaptation of the recent by Octave Mirbeau. There is a Hollywood film of the same name starring Paulette Goddard, Burgess Meredith and Judith Anderson, directed by Jean Renoir that I haven’t seen, released in 1946. I understand the treatment was more comedic and old-fashioned.

Surrealist Luis Buñel’s film is perhaps best described as a comédie noire, a genre antecedent to the familiar (and somewhat similar) film noir. In the latter the comedy is usually incidental and there is no attempt at any immense philosophic or symbolic significance. Here Buñel not only makes a statement about the nature of the relationship between bourgeois Europe in the thirties and fascism, but even delves into the primeval nature of women and gives us a attractive spy at a woman’s status in bourgeois society. Celestine is duplicitous because she has to be to survive. She uses men the plot the society uses her.

Be clear and pay cessation attention to the final scene inside and outside the café and mediate the implications of what is being shown. What is being suggested? Will Joseph finally regain the punishment he so richly deserves? Or did Celestine create the choice she made out of terror? Is the union between Joseph and Celestine symbolic of that between the fascists and Europe?

For those fervent in this last theme I highly recommend Vittoria De Sica’s intellectual The Garden of the Finzi-Continis (1971) .

Second movie of spanish director Luis Bunuel to have the honour to enter the most praised Criterion DVD collection after THE DISCREET CHARM OF THE BOURGEOISIE a few weeks ago, DIARY OF A CHAMBERMAID is presented in a perfect widescreen dim and white copy with a well-balanced sound. As bonus features, you will luxuriate in a theatrical trailer, a printed interview of Luis Bunuel and a 25 minutes interview of screenplay writer Jean-Claude Carrière who wrote or co-wrote some of the most distinguished movies of the last thirty years.

Adapted from a fresh of Octave Mirbeau, DIARY OF A CHAMBERMAID was directed in 1964 by a Luis Bunuel already sanctified by two generations of movie lovers. French actor Michel Piccoli replaces the bunuelian Fernando Rey in the role of a member of the bourgeoisie slightly decadent and ridiculous. Jeanne Moreau (Jules and Jim), as the chambermaid, is a young woman coming from Paris and discovering what is like to live in the “deep” France of the early thirties.

DIARY OF A CHAMBERMAID can not be classified in any specific genre. It’s a comedy yes, but with a very serious slay in the middle of the tale. It’s a detective yarn yes, but with harsch political critiques. In fact, it’s simply a Luis Bunuel movie with his original personal world impregnating a recent he admired from his childhood on. Highly recommended.

Its sizable for kids. A bit scary in a few spots but its an awsome moive pudgy of adventure and the singing is out of this world. Anyone can like this moive.

Jessica Martin (Kim Bassinger) lives the safe life in the SoCal suburb of Brentwood - you know, where OJ lived - with her realtor husband Craig (Richard Burgi) and 11-year obsolete son Ricky (Adam Taylor Gordon) . One day, after waving Ricky off on the school bus, Jessica’s home is invaded by three thugs led by Greer (Jason Statham) . After shooting the housekeeper - perhaps one of the shortest bit parts in history, the intruders carry Martin off to a house in the hills (with a million $ opinion of the San Fernando Valley), where she’s locked in the attic with a smashed phone until Craig hands over an item about which she knows nothing. Being a high school science teacher, Jessica coaxes the phone befriend to life and dials out by touching two wires together. Calling blindly, she manages to advance the young and irresponsible Ryan (Chris Evans) cruising the flee down by Venice Beach. After mighty tearful pleading, Martin convinces Ryan that her pickle is precise, and this launches the latter off on a day-long odyssey of chases and violence as he tries to rescue Jessica and her soon-to-be-abducted son, all the while maintaining that tenuous phone connection to the near-hysterical woman. Obviously, Ryan has never heard the archaic adage, “No superior deed goes unpunished.”

CELLULAR has everything important for a vicarious, nail-biting thrill scurry at the movies. There’s the truly vicious villain (Greer), the exquisite damsel in damage (Jessica), and the completely consuming knight-errant (Ryan), all perfectly played by their respective actors in an ingenious station. Then there’s the enjoyable supporting role of William H. Macy as Mooney, the police desk sergeant who reluctantly gets enthusiastic in the mayhem when all he really wants is to retire and hasten a day spa with his girlfriend. And to top it off, the film’s creators bedevil Ryan with those itsy-bitsy daily annoyances that the viewers will personally know so well: a patronizing sales clerk, having to “select a number” in a crowded store, an ghastly lawyer, dreadful cellular reception in tunnels and stairwells, an officious security guard, a driver in the next car playing the stereo too loud, slowpokes in the lickety-split lane, and street delays caused by inopportune construction.

CELLULAR isn’t one of the year’s greatest cinematic achievements, but, for pure entertainment value and fun, it rates 5 stars if you’re not too discriminating and willing to overlook a few credibility gaps. I mean, you can’t actually park your car curbside in front of the terminal at LAX.

Finally, Jessica’s knowledge of human anatomy, when combined with a bewitching object, gives dazzling warning that you probably don’t want to p.o. your high school science teacher.

This is one of my accepted movies in unique years. In the film, Jessica (Kim Basinger) is kidnapped and manages to click the wires on a smashed phone to area a call. She reaches beach slacker Ryan (Chris Evans) and manages to convince him that she’s telling the truth and to accept assist. What ensues is a aroused run through downtown Los Angeles as Ryan tries desperately to abet her. The DVD has some grand features on it (interviews, scene selection, etc.), and the movie overall was well made. If you are into this sort of movie, I recommend it. You will not be disappointed in the least bit.

What I know about the Spanish American War can be rattled off in about a shrimp — Remember the Maine! Rough Riders, Guam, Cuba, Puerto Rico and he Philippines. This gracious PBS presentation begins to absorb in the rest. Using interviews with historians (including Stephen Ambrose and Daniel Brinkley) from America, Cuba and the Philippines, interspersed with period sheet music (”We have remembered the Maine, The Admiral Dewey March) and archival footage, “Crucible of Empire” tells the epic of a young and brash post-Civil War America ready to flex its adolescent muscle against a feeble opponent. The tall characters are here — Teddy Roosevelt, William McKinley, William Randolph Hearst, but also the ignored Cuban and Philipino insurgents, like General Maximo Gomez and Emilio Aguinaldo. The first half of the exhibit seemed as though it would pooh-pooh the shadowy side of the war, but PBS chose to more or less follow the changing mood of America itself towards its conquests — from war fever to disillusionment. By the waste of the film, the viewer begins to eye the war — with its racism, paternalism, undemocratic underpinnings, one-sided atrocities and the betrayal of the nationalistic aspirations of native-born people — as the terrifying cramped affair that it was. An epilogue brings the memoir to the demonstrate day, through independence, world war and revolution.

My guess is that many of us Americans remember the Civil War and the World Wars, but many of us may have forgotten a war from approximately 110 years ago. We know of Fidel, but some do not know about American dynamics regarding Cuba before him. As the US is currently in a foreign war, this documentary reminds the viewer of another foreign war and perhaps we can learn lessons or perform connections between the two.

This work had diverse interviewees: men and women, Americans and foreigners, Blacks, whites, Latinos, and Asians. What dinky that I read of “Fighting for American Manhood” was very strong and informative, so I was jubilant to spy its author, Dr. K, Hoganson, interviewed for this work.

This work may be ample for African-American Studies classes as well. The US sent Blacks to Cuba thinking they could deal with tropical environments better. Honest like in the Vietnam War, Dusky and white soldiers were fighting each other unbiased as remarkable as with the foreign opponent. Dismal newspapers, impartial like in World War II, asked, “Why should we fight injustic abroad when no one is helping us peer justice here? ” The stupidest thing is that many Americans of the majority background had no conception how many Cubans were Shadowy.

I had seen this in Japanese (although in a horrible-quality print) but I knew this would be unbelievable. And guess what? The dubbers didn’t kill this one! Not only that, but the extra feature, the UNCUT myth of Mewtwo’s Origin is well worth the notice of the DVD by itself! Having heard all about the mysterious Japanese CD Drama, “Birth of Mewtwo”, which explains the creation of everyone’s current angsty, psychic cat, it was truly spectacular to actually ogle this in animation. That in itself explains more about the character of Mewtwo than the entire first movie! The main myth of Mewtwo Returns focuses on Giovanni, a character who never gets enough conceal time, and one of his star agents, Domino AKA “The Dismal Tulip”, agent 009. And she’s perfectly sinful! Like in the previous Pokemon movies, our celebrated Rockets (Jessie, James, and Meowth) play a daring role (and fetch lots of cover time, might I add!) . The animation is spectacular, like the other Pokemon movies, and even though the epic is somewhat shorter, you don’t even behold. In a scheme, it’s better, since the myth moves snappy without any filler. I recommend this to any Pokemon fan, but especially the older fans out there. This is a bit more intense than the TV display (like the other movies were) but I deem it’s noteworthy better than the first 2 movies. If you ever liked Mewtwo at all, or wondered what happened after the first movie, you HAVE to spy this!

Ah, Myuutsuu sama ^_^ It’s estimable to explore him serve in action again, for alot of people were dying to know what happened to him after the First Movie. I have seen the Japanese dub to this, and I know not to question the same for the American version but hey I am exasperated about this as any hard core Mewtwo fan is ^_^

Basically the status goes that Mewtwo is spotted by Team Rocket living on an island that seems to get a type a magical relivitalizing water. Of course Ash and Co. stumble across a lady studying the water and thus collect caught up with Mewtwo (again.) But Mewtwo has long since changed his ways, and discusses the beauty of the world with his devoted clones, to which you may remember, of Pikachu and Meowth.

Of course Giovanni wants his bought and paid for all mighty clone assist, and sets about sending a whole air armarda after Mewtwo and his clones. What happens to them all, hey ya gonna hafta consume it ^_^ But when in Pokemon is there not a contented ending? ^_~

I feel this product is a suitable rob. I only gave it a 4 because the girls power is a limited on the passe side which offsets the batttles to powerful. The area is very favorable. The special effects are valid also. I thoroughly enjoyed this series.

This anime was completely adorable! When a microscopic of shonen conjoined with shojo comes to life its wonderful! I am disappointed on how its sound is though. Other than that this anime was beautifully made! The characters all adorable! There should have been more excitement in it though. I bear at least. And I agree with the review below mine (from cpuwizard), her attack was very, I don’t know it wasn’t as satisfactory as it should have been and every time she went to attack she screamed at the top of her lungs, that didn’t go well with me it was very annoying. Other than that it was all amazingly made! Although I talk about all that stuff the fable line was beautifully done, kudos! I stumbled upon this anime from Amazon when I was looking in my email and saw an email that said “OVER 50% PERCENT OFF ON Catch ANIME!” so quick-witted me (anime is my calling so this was SHOUTING my name!) I clicked on the email and went straight to the page, with only thirty dollars left on my visa I bought it! I am very gay I did too! I recommend this anime to people who like GoKuSen or Samurai Deeper Kyo or Mirage of Blaze because those are rare anime shows in the United States. I also recommend this anime for the people who like to inspect rare anime shows because this is one that’s never been heard of until I opened that email and saw it and I knew I had to glean it! I was really looking forward to seeing this DVD and watched it the day I got it. However, I was disappointed in how the point to was set aside together. I expected a Biography point to to be safe. I would say the different speakers (I do not know any of them) who were an author, a film critic (I consider), etc. were very well spoken and had a lot of inspiring things to say - very professional. BUT…to prove the same genuine photos over and over and over and over (sometimes cropped to expose honest one or two people) — like some cheap reality present showing the same accident over an over again - not very grand.

This was called “Harry Potter Kids” (plural) but mostly talked about Daniel Radcliffe. The DVD had about 31 min. the popularity of Harry Potter books, of J. K. Rowling info (not so considerable), some about the director Chris Columbus, but MOSTLY about Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and less than 13 minutes was devoted to Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Emma Watson (Herminone Grainger) - what experience they did not have before Harry Potter, how they Emma wasn’t really cute or anything but that Emma was such a “first-rate girl” - none of the “kids” had gone terrible and that Daniel had done a well know play (Equus) where he appears nude and is in a adore making scene - he can act in other areas besides Harry Potter — so he was cheerful.

The case for the DVD says the bustle time is “approximately 50 minutes” but it is actually only 44 minutes. I guess I should have know better being it was a TV broadcast with commercials from 2008 so it could not be 50 minutes. There were no extras - impartial chapters you could resolve.

I would recommend the unique ABC broadcast reveal, “J.K. Rowling, A Year in the Life Of” that was broadcast July 16, 2009. Now THAT was captivating!

I purchased this DVD after seeing the program on television. I’m a big Harry Potter fan, of both the books and movies. I really enjoyed this reveal, and I’m not a tall fan of the whole Biography series in general. If you like the Harry Potter movies or are objective a fan of these talented teenagers, you’ll like this DVD.

My 5 yr musty daughter loves blues clues and asked for these by name as portion of her christmas presents. She has watched them repeatedly since receiving them and I don’t anticipate that she’ll terminate watching them any time soon.

I have seen this DVD about 30 times! After reading all the Henning Mankell Wallander mysteries, I ordered it from Amazon UK and switched my computer to Place 2. Boy was it worth it. Improbable actors and crew. The high quality of the production is unmatched. Branagh won several awards for this series already, both for acting and producing. They are region to perform three more this summer, again based on the resplendent books by Henning Mankell. There are two DVDs in the box. One has demonstrate 1 and 2 on it. The other DVD has Exhibit 3 and then a ton of wonderfully produced specials. These include a astonishing and long chat between Kenneth Branagh and Henning Mankell. Mankell is overjoyed with the series and you will be too!!

The Kurt Wallander novels, authored by Henning Mankell, are quite accepted in Europe but rather less well known in the US. “Wallander-Series I” brings to television and DVD the dramatization of three of the novels. Wallander, portrayed by aged and gifted Irish actor Kenneth Branagh, is a detective on the police force of the gritty seaside town of Ystad in Sweden. He is a borderline physical and psychological burnout case, who has lost his sense of detachment from his cases and takes everything far too personally. At the same time, he is a brillant sleuth with an ability to accomplish intuitive connections between seemingly unrelated cases. Assisted by his staff and supported by a faithful daughter, he manfully plugs away at some rather unorthodox cases.

“Sidetracked” opens with a brilliantly staged scene in which Wallander fails to prevent a young woman from self-immolation in a sunlit field of flowers. He is also beset by a series of murders in the local art business, and by the health issues of his estranged father. Only Wallander can study the connections, which lead to a deadly sex ring and a surprising killer.

“Firewall” opens with the seemingly senseless abolish of a taxi driver by two young women. As other bodies inaugurate to pile up, Wallander picks at a unfamiliar statement by one of the two young women, who escapes from police custody and then is herself horribly murdered. Wallander’s persistance leads him to an unorthodox terrorist situation, and a betrayal by a friend.

“One Step Gradual” involves Wallander in the deaths of several young persons who were connected with a midsummer’s eve celebration. Additional deaths lead Wallander into a wider case in which the police seem constantly one step leisurely the killer or killers.

This series was filmed in Sweden, which makes for some stunning region shooting. The sets are contrasted with some grim social rot in Swedish society, as exemplified by the gritty portrayal of Ystad society. Wallander’s crew, all British actors, provide low-key befriend to Branagh’s haggard and unshaven lead detective. His personal suffering over each case and over a personal life seemingly in shambles, imparts a gray tone to the stories that may be unsettling to some viewers. However, the stories are intricately plotted and thrillingly concluded; Branagh carries the day in a titillating portrayal. This series is very highly recommended to fans of PBS Masterpiece Mystery looking for something different in a police procedural.
